While we were still in Colville, I called our old friends John and Jessica who live in Spokane and who we haven’t seen in probably 15 years. We had planned to take the long way to Spokane, following the Pend Orielle River down to Newport and the taking Highway 2 into Spokane. But Jess sounded so excited on the phone that we decided to just take 395 and beat feet straight to their place.
Spokane is a surprisingly pretty city. Not sure why that should be surprising but, for some reason, to me , it is. Jess took us on a couple of great walking tours. The first day there we went to Minto Park but, as is too often the case, I forgot my camera. But on Sunday we went down to Riverfront Park and this time I was ready.
We used to get together with John & Jess a lot when we lived in Lewiston, Idaho. It was great how we could pick right up as if no time had passed since our last visit. We ate, we drank, we talked, we walked and just enjoyed each other’s company. Hope it’s not 15 years before we see them again.
Some e-mails came in while we were in Spokane that threw a slight twist in our plans. I’m not saying yet what that twist was but, suffice it t say that we will probably get another chance to follow the Pend Orielle River road.
