Last year when we visited Treva and Jeff at their Kayler’s Bend Golf Course, just outside of Peck, Idaho on Hwy 12, besides the numerous deer and bunnies, there was a bald eagle mom and her little ones. If you go back through the archives you can see the pictures I got of them. This year the eagles are gone but, not to be outdone, this time they have a moose they’ve named Cow-Winkle.
These pictures were all taken from Jeff and Treva’s deck. We’d gone off in the golf carts on a moose hunt. When we got back to the house, there was Cow-Winkle standing right across the driveway from the house, chowing down on the apple trees. It’s hard to get a sense of how big she was because none of us were stupid enough to try to stand near her for scale. Trust me, she’s big. She’s been hanging around for over 3 weeks now and they’re not sure she has any intention of leaving.
Sunday night, Jeff and Treva took us out to eat at the Canyon Inn at the Peck turn-off. The Canyon Inn is the kind of place Lulu and I are always looking for when we travel. Just a basic restaurant/bar that caters primarily to locals but is also open and welcoming to outsiders as long as they don’t act like jerks. I had a Buster Burger (named after the owner’s dog). It was a 1/3 lb. burger with jalapeño jack cheese, guacamole, onion rings, and chipotle mayo as well as onions, tomato and lettuce. Had Tater Tots on the side. Yum. I wrote up a review on Trip Advisor. Lulu had a Reuben, Treva a bacon cheeseburger and Jeff a patty melt. Didn’t hear any complaints.
It was a short visit as Treva and Jeff had to go to Lewiston or someplace this afternoon and Lulu and I were ready to get on our way to Montana.
